Come to our meeting and support our farmers The controversial budget decision to reduce inheritance tax relief for farmers will be debated by members of the Skegness Conservative Policy Forum Group CPF) at its next meeting. This will be part of a wide-ranging discussion on the Party’s Farm and Food Security survey when the group meets at the North Shore Hotel, Skegness, on Thursday, January 9, at 7.30pm. The 2024 Autumn Budget reduced inheritance tax relief on combined agricultural and business assets after the first £1 million from 100 per cent to 50 per cent from April 2026. The National Farmers Union claims that: “The Budget will add to the cost of producing food at a time when hard-pressed British farmers cannot absorb it, meaning either the supply chain or consumers will end up bearing the brunt.” The Country Land and Business Association said: “Capping the agricultural property relief at £1 million could harm 70,000 UK farms, damaging family businesses and destabilising food security.” Skegness CPF Group Chairman John Cowpe said: “This attack on farmers by the Labour Government is an outrage. I hope we will be able to add our voice to the campaign to have the changes reversed. “I would like to invite local farmers and anyone else involved in agriculture affected by the Budget decisions to come along to our meeting and air their views."
