The Leader of North Lincolnshire Council, Cllr Rob Waltham MBE, has been selected as the Conservative candidate to be the first Mayor of Greater Lincolnshire. Cllr Waltham was chosen from a shortlist of three by Lincolnshire Conservative members meeting at Bishop Grosseteste University, Lincoln. The other two shortlisted candidates were Mr Matt Warman, former MP for Boston and Skegness, and Mr Karl McCartney, former MP for Lincoln. Following his selection, Cllr Waltham was quick to visit East Lindsey, having a busy day out across Skegness, Mablethorpe and Horncastle. He spoke with councillors, residents and local volunteers about the huge new opportunities coming our way with the regional mayor being elected in May.
Cllr Waltham said: “As someone born and raised in our area, with genuine local connections and a track record as a council leader, I’m really passionate about what the new role will mean. “Our mayor will bring in new funding from Government to invest in transport, skills and jobs for our region.” Cllr Carl Macey, county councillor for Skegness North and Deputy Chairman (Policy and Campaigning) for Skegness Conservative Branch, commented: “It was fantastic to meet up with our Conservative candidate. I feel Rob is an excellent candidate who will do a great job for the people of Skegness and Greater Lincolnshire, ensuring our voices are heard if successfully elected in May.”
